Queen City based multi-instrumentalists, American Theory, trekked down to the Capitol city  to deliver an instrument swapping, metalcore frenzy to Chapel of Bones just outside of Downtown Raleigh.
The night started with Raleigh natives, The Wild, who kicked us off with a head banging, heavy stampede of mosh call outs and breakdowns. Midway through their set, Zane of Weymouth gave us a sneak peak of their chaotic energy when he jumped on stage and delivered a Bryan Garrisian vocal performance.
Next up was Ham Radio, Tennessee based emo and a love letter to emo and metalcore of the early 2010s. Watching Jamon Lee swing his taped microphone around his head on stage transported me back to watching August Burns Red live videos in 2011.
Finally, American Theory came on stage and delivered an incredible performance of their newest album, Where Did All The Flowers Go. Leading off with the heavy, pummeling track Aphasia, the entire venue was moshing less than a minute in. A little over midway through their performance, the band shuffled up. Drummer Erik found himself on vocals, Jonathan Gutierrez moved from bass to drums, and Devyn picked up the bass to deliver more post hardcore/metalcore grooves.
American Theory finished their performance with a heartstring pulling rendition of “Your Presence” with a dedication to Devyn’s grandfather. Their tour continues through the month.
