One of the things I’ve been learning on this journey is that it’s not always about chasing the next big show or adding another big name artist to your resume. It’s about connections.
It can be a bit lonely sometimes going to shows, but making conversations with the people you meet along the way, can become a bigger part of your story. An artist who remembers you, the photographer you connect with, the person you meet in the pit at a show for one of your favorite artist, who you never expected to see again.
Going to Speakeasy on Sunday was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Seeing Anna Cobb perform not only her own original songs, but also covers of Bob Dylan, The Cranberries, and Coheed and Cambria, was something special. Her vocals completely filled the room and had everyone’s attention to a point a few tears were shed. Her cover of Mother Superior really stood out as it was a song that demands powerful vocals and boy, Anna didn't miss a beat. Jones Bell also tore up the room with his sharp vocals and incredible piano playing. There were moments where it was hard not to get chills watching him perform.
But what really stayed with me wasn’t just the music. I looked around the room and saw so much talent, creativity, and passion all around me. Artists supporting artists. People coming together because they simply love music and want to share something with one another.
And for once, I didn’t feel alone.
At the end of the day, those connections mean more than a name on a list. Shows will come and go. The photos will be nothing but space on a hard drive. But the people you connected with and the memories you made along the way...that’s what will stay with you.
