On the theatre Stage Of the Pyrh strange beings shared the space With cosmic wolves and antlered aliens known as Futurebirds. The band sounds like a country band and looks like a country band, but that is where the similarities end. Futurebirds' sound is not the rural acoustic country Of the past, nor is it the trap-beat-laden country songs Of today. Rooted in country rock and Americana, Futurebirds have crafted a distinct sound over the two decades they have played together. The pyrle crowd was all here for it
Frontman Carter King addressed the energetic crowd and laid out the plans for the evening. Futurebirds knew the fans wanted to hear the new tracks from their "Far Out Country' album, but they were not ready to jump ahead to that chapter Of their musical journey. After all, Futurebirds is all about the journey. TO appreciate the present, you must understand the past.
Futurebirds instead played selected tracks from their Older albums. Of note, they rocked their infectiously good track "Trippin" from their previous "Team•work" album, but they also dove into deep cuts Of their 2015 album "Hotel parties". It was a great refresher on the band's earlier work and set the Stage for the band's past and the band's present. The crowd reacted enthusiastically to their favorites, but you could feel the anticipation buzzing in the air With each performance.
When Futurebirds began to strum "Sienna Life" during an acoustic performance, you could feel a change occurring on stage. The music was not evidence Of the future Of the band, but a snapshot Of the moment. The future could wait, and the past was the past. All that mattered Was the present. Futurebirds played a few more selects from their new album, even teasing a new song to be added to the second part Of Far Out Country to be released later this year, promising there to be a future for the listeners to look forward to
The Futurebirds attempt to prove one thing With their performance. Neither the band nor Far Out Country are the final destinations on their journey. The bands' music and shows are the joumey towards a destination that has yet been developed consciously by Futurebirds or their listeners. But that doesn't matter much to the band now because, at the present, they were playing for a sold-out Pyrle crowd amongst old and new bonds to share a unique night on the way to that destination that is still far out of sight. aut Futurebirds greet it with open arms.
