When Masego stepped onto the stage, it was entirely surreal, easily one of the most ecstatic crowd eruptions I have ever witnessed at any show. You simply cannot replicate the hype of a homegrown legend returning to the Virginia area. Masego came out firing on all cylinders, blending his signature R&B and psychedelic sound to deliver an atmosphere that was simultaneously chill and romantic, yet infectious enough to lock the entire room into a relentless dance trance.
Earlier in the evening, the crowd and I were also treated to an exceptional opening set by the incredibly charming Lekan. From his minimalist lighting to his unique vocal pitches, it was an absolute delight to experience it all firsthand from the photo pit.
Masego completely nailed his artist selection for the tour; truly, it couldn't have been a more perfect bill. On a visual level, Masego’s stage lighting was an absolute banger of a choice. I always appreciate it when an artist utilizes colors that allow me to capture high-quality, emotionally resonant storytelling images.
Beyond making my job in the pit a dream, those deliberate color palettes created a pure, palpable connection between the artist and the crowd. It was nothing short of a once-in-a-lifetime performance.
